A Note from the Desk of Nigel Taylor: Greetings to all my readers. These are my private pages and are separate and distinct from Taylor & Associates, another web site owned and operated by me. I am a practicing financial planner in California but have decided to separate out my articles on the politics of planning and consumer related information over to my personal pages. The views expressed in these personal pages reflect my opinions as a freelance finance writer and do not in any way, shape or form represent the opinions of any other individual or company I am affiliated, associated or appointed with in my other profession as a practicing financial planner. I created this site because so many consumers and planners alike encouraged me to with comments such as "Who better to comment on the state of the profession that a writer who also is on the inside". If you want to visit Taylor & Associates to learn more about my professional services offered in California or Nevada you can CLICK HERE. This part of my web site is solely dedicated to the profession of financial planning and what we can do to improve things. As initiatives are announced, edicts handed down, or new regulations enacted, I'll share my perspective with you in the hope that when things are openly discussed, good things will begin to happen.

CLICK HERE Posted November, 2002 Well, it's been five months in the making but I've finally finished my article highlighting the illegal activities of Fee-Only Planners in the business of insurance in California. I'm also happy to report that "Financial Planning" Magazine immediately agreed to print an abridged version of my article in its November 2002 edition. This article addresses the illegal conduct of fee-only planners in many States but does, at the same time, provide potential solutions that will help increase compliance among these planners. Shame on Fee-Only planners who have violated the law for years with impunity, and shame on them again for not coming up with any constructive ideas for themselves on how to provide advice legally, other than lobbying for a repeal of the very statutes they violate. I am glad the Agent & Broker Advisory Committee to the CA Dept. of Insurance has taken this report seriously and much is being done at this time behind the scenes to bring lawbreakers in California and elsewhere to justice. The article is in Adobe .pdf format.

Click Here To read my updated article (October 2002) regarding the Fee-Only Name Game being played by NAPFA. Recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, NAPFA has somehow, once again convinced WSJ journalists to make "method of compensation" a more important issue than "Ethics, Competence and Disclosure of Compensation". Fee-Only is a great method of offering financial planning services and I offer fee-only planning as one part of the services I offer to my clients. It is NOT, HOWEVER, the only fair and reasonable method for ALL Americans. My article sheds light on the activities of some of these fee-only planners and should provide you with a little perspective and balance from all the marketing hype, half truths, insinuations and questionable tactics some planners use to get your business.
